Before you install
How is it different from other translation extensions?
Every word you look up goes into your word book and lights up when you meet it again on another page, in a video or in a PDF. Later you review it with the sentence you found it in. Translating is only the first step.
Which browsers does it work in?
Chrome and Edge on a computer. Phone browsers can't install extensions, but Pro members can use audio review on their phone.
Which languages can I learn, and in which language are meanings shown?
It's made for learning English. Meanings can be shown in 40 native languages; change yours in the settings.
Do I need an account?
No. Look up and review words right after installing. To upgrade to Pro you sign in, and from then on your word book and review progress go with your account.
Using it
Does it work with videos?
Yes, with YouTube videos that have CC subtitles: click any word in the subtitles, show them in two languages or only the original, and jump back to that second when you review. Videos without CC subtitles aren't supported yet.
Can I read PDFs? What about files on my computer?
Yes. Online PDFs open right away. For files on your computer, turn on “Allow access to file URLs” in the extension's settings the first time. Files are never uploaded. Scanned PDFs can't be looked up yet. How to read PDFs
How are reviews scheduled?
A word you look up comes up for review the next day. Each correct answer moves it up a level, with gaps of 1, 3, 7, 15, 30 and 90 days; after the last one it's learned. Meeting it while reading counts too: its review moves later, but it doesn't level up.
What is audio review?
Listen to today's review words without looking at the screen: the word, its meaning, then the sentence you found it in, twice. It keeps playing when your phone is locked. It's a Pro feature; on the free plan you can hear 3 sample words.
Can I import and export words?
Import from Kindle Vocabulary Builder or a CSV file, and export to CSV or an Anki file, all free. Sending words to Anki in one click is a Pro feature.
Paying
What are the limits on the free plan?
10 reviews, 500 word lookups and 20 sentence translations a day. Your word book shows the 50 most recent words; older ones stay saved in your browser and come back when you upgrade. Compare Free and Pro
Is “unlimited” on Pro really unlimited?
There's a fair-use cap of 2,000 word lookups and 2,000 sentence translations a day, far more than everyday reading needs.
How do I cancel or get a refund?
Cancel with “Manage subscription” on your account page; Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for. For any payment, email [email protected] within 7 days for a full refund, no reason needed.
Data and privacy
What is sent when I look up a word?
The word you selected and the sentence around it, so the meaning fits that sentence. The page address isn't sent, and PDFs are never uploaded. Privacy policy
Where is my word book stored?
In your browser. For Pro members, the word book and review progress also sync to our servers and go with your account.
